The Hermes Kelly Bag, though originally released in 1935, gained unprecedented popularity in the 1950's. Grace Kelly used the bag to hide her pregnant belly from the paparazzi and the bag become so associated with the actress that Hermes renamed it in her honour. (images and history via HERE)
Grace was so beautiful and classy...never new the history of the purse, very interesting. Found you from the A-Z Challenge, so far it’s been a lot of fun, I’m now following you on GFC and I hope you have a chance to check out my blog! Monica http://oldermommystillyummy.blogspot.com/
Oh FIFI, you are so chic and wonderful! THANK YOU FOR COMING TO VISIT ME! And I also am flattered that you had asked me to contribute to READING IS FASHIONABLE....I can barely eek out my weekly blog post with my DEMANDING job, but I will think about it for summer! I LOVE YOUR WORLD! Have fun, Anita
A classic iconic woman AND bag. I love the Kelly and actually prefer it to the more ubiquitous (and very heavy) Birkin. There is nothing chicer than seeing a larger sized well loved Kelly that has a wonderful patina
Happy Pink Saturday FiFi Sweetie... Such a beautiful woman. I had no idea the history behind her bag, just loved the classic look of it. (And the size.)
Just beautiful FiFi. Beautiful. I am hopping over to see your Reading Is Fashionable Book Giveaway. What fun. Thank you for this treasure. You are SO giving of yourself sweet one.
Have a glorious weekend. Many hugs and much love, Sherry
I adore those Hermes bags and I took a photo of every Hermes shop I could find on the South of France. I thought I was the only one. Sadly could not afford the Hermes so bought a lovely similar bag from DKNY in Cherry Red and am quite content! xo
What a fun post. Grace and her purse were the fashion symbols of the day. She was a gracious person. She had the tiniest little waist. Manzanita Wanna buy a duck
Ahh, those were the days. When a married woman felt the need to hide her pregnant belly. And when a celebrity actually used the same bag again and again.

Happy Pink Saturday, Fifi.
I love this post - and of course I adore the pink Hermes.
One of my best friends collects Hermes bags, and she has so many. Each one is like a little work of art.
