Looking at these painted posters (by moi) daily in my son's room...

Being stared at by these masks...

I feel today is the right day to grab this hat off the wall and journey to Africa... grab your pith helmet and let's go!

Habitually Chic has found a lovely
Giraffe Manor for us to stay...

Or we could rough it in a hut...

Or... there is always this place we could stay...
Cris, artist in Oregon would want us to definitely find out more about this house...

Does this house look familiar? Hint... 1985... Robert Redford and... let's peek inside for...

Meryl Streep... there she is... accommodations... look pretty nice in OUT OF AFRICA...

The movie Out of Africa is loosely based on a memoir by
Isak Dinesen, a
nom de plume used by the Danish author Baroness
Karen von Blixen-Finecke. The book was published 1937 and tells the events of the seventeen years that Blixen lived in
Kenya. The book talks about Blixen’s life on her coffee plantation and about people who were apart of her life there. It is also speaks about African colonial life. This is the real Blixen...

And here is my painting of Meryl as Blixen in the 1985 movie Out of Africa which romanticizes a relationship between Blixen and Denys Finch Hatton...

it is true that they had a relationship... but the true story is not exactly like the movie... you can read the true story
here... for this post I will keep the romance alive that Hollywood depicted and every woman swooned over...

The chemistry between Robert Redford and Meryl Streep was dynamic, winning the film 7 Oscars... and the hair washing scene will go down in history as one of the most romantic moments on the silver screen...
but I love the photos of the couple picnicking... so romantic to lounge in a field with a handsome man, drinking wine, feasting on some delightful food... aaaaah... I give you this painting...

And before you run off to rent this movie... that's what I plan to do... because if I don't... I'm afraid Cris will not speak to me anymore... and I don't want that... I rely on her stopping by daily to give me words of encouragement! Soooooooooo... Without further adieu... I give you the names of the Giveaway Winners...

Silver Screen Surroundings, Shorehouse Chic, Dear Alison, Bishop's Room, My Life on the East Coast... Congratulations! For those of you whose name were not drawn... stay tuned... I am going to be involved with a few other blog's giveaways SOON... you're chance to win is on the way! On that note... I'm off to look at WILD animals and MORE photos from OUT OF AFRICA here at Chick in the Country! ENJOY your weekend SAFARI... See you Monday!

oh Thank you Fifi, This is wonderful. There is something Romantic about Africa and Safaris, when the English went with all their Leather trunks and tea things out camping, So I guess the Romantic in me tuned into all that in this movie. Your Paintings are wonderful too. Oh and that hair washing scene was so romantic but the poetry that went with it made it ... supurb post today. Your the best Fifi.

Hi Fifi! Just found a quick moment to read during my LAST busy wedding weekend. I can hardly wait to be done, and you've inspired me! I was already on chocolate and champagne...I think I'll indulge while watching Out of Africa. THanks for the little moment of beauty!

I absolutely cannot WAIT to go on safari. My husband still thinks I'm too brave... but my life will simply not be complete until I see some big game and hear the heavy feet of elephants and lions outside our (safe) luxury cabin.
Trust me.. there's an African adventure in our future. Great post!
