I thought it was enjoyable though not great... looking forward to story on the BIG screen... will be re-reading a book I read years ago... "Chanel... A Woman of Her Own" by Alex Madsen.
Sooooo... Did you love it? Did you hate it? Shirley MacLaine... not enough of her? Are you looking forward to the silver screen version with Audrey Tautou? Or could you careless about Coco Chanel?

Although I love Ms. Shirley, I started watching late and found it a little hard to follow. Therefore, I decided not to watch and read a book about the famous Coco instead. My husband has actually read a couple of books about Coco and just adores her.
I enjoyed it. The story is amazing. She was quite something in her day~ in fact she would still be quite something in our day.

I loved it. I didnt know that much personal stuff about her. Now I find I want to read more. I know I love her perfume COCO and chanel no 5. I too came in the middle of it and it took a bit to figure the story out but I did and it came on again right after the first one ended so I got to see it up to where I started.
What a legend she is.
oh NO! i missed this! i can't believe it...
I was able to watch the first 2 hours before I needed to leave. I have it scheduled on my TV to watch the last 3rd tonight. I thought it was intriguing and definitely spoke volumes about dreams, ambition, and the tares that try to choke the life out of us. So far, I am enjoying the earlier years far better, but I'll know more after watching the remainder tonight.

Oh man I missed it! Must see it when it comes back on - was looking forward to it.
Hello Fifi !
You love France !
Coco Chanel was a great Woman...
See You soon...
Oh Fifi, I was to respond to you about the trans0fat Dunkin',( I figured you would notice it with your perceptive eye) and what do I find posted today. Chanel is my favourite, strong lady.....the film hasn¨t hit the screen yet in Sweden...I guess I will have to ask my husband to fill up his handluggage with this, the next time he takes off for N.Y. By the way Dunkin's can never be healthy.
There are no shoes like Chanel's, they also hit the handluggage upon request. Thanks Ingela
Shirley MacLaine?!? I just can't picture it. Somehow this movie totally flew under my radar...But I think I'd much rather see Audrey Tautou so I'll fold out for the big screen. :-)
i missed it -- so sad! love chanel SO much, though. :)
The movie Coco Chanel is on TV again tonight. So anyone missing it has one more chance to see it.
i didn't see it, but i absolutely love coco chanel. as a matter of fact, i love anything that has to do with chanel. haha. by the way, your blog is really cute!
check out my blog? some1ikeithaute.blogspot.com
thanks! i am glad you enjoyed it. i loved your blog too. and feel free to keep checking back for more updates, i'll do the same with yours.
I meant to tape it and forgot. I usually like Shirley's movies, plus I get a kick out of her when she gives interviews, she is quite something.
Have a nice night,
Kathy :)
I liked it. What a timeless, classic style she had. I look forward to the big screen version.
I didn't see it, and even though I love Coco Chanel...I wasn't too crazy about the previews I saw. Thanks for the review!!!
OH NO! I missed this movie! I had been looking forward to it for a long time too. Maybe they will do a rerun....hope so!
I love reading anything about Coco Chanel.....such a fascinating icon!
I so meant to watch this movie (and I don't plan life around movies very often at all) and then I forgot...and then my SIL#3 reminded me to watch the re-airing...and I forgot...
I'm slightly aggravated with myself over this...
I'm just going to get a biography (maybe the one you mention) and read that instead of trying to catch the movie...
maybe I can get it from netflix one of these days :)
fifi... it was a wonderful story with fab settings! I actually think the actress who portrayed Coco as a younger woman should have received highest billing; she portrayed Coco perfectly. Shirley's role was much smaller.
I totally missed this movie! I'll have to see when it's going to be on again because I'm fascinated by Coco Chanel. I was wondering why there was suddenly a stampede these week of people coming to my (months old) post about Chanel's apartment on Rue Cambon. Now I know! -Julia
I did not see this movie, but loved that book you mentioned which I read quite a while ago, too. She's a fascinating woman and quite extraordinary in her day. I don't see how Ms. MacLaine could have pulled off her aura and style.
Fifi,
I loved the movie, but preferred the parts with the younger actress as well as Coco making her own way in the world. The actress was darling and I wanted her as Coco to succeed. The sets were lovely and Coco's true love was dreamy ;)

Audrey Tatou is adorable and will make a great Chanel. If the movie is French it will be better than anything Lifetime TV put together.
